CONGRESS :HOUSE Majority leader steve scalise says he is being treated for cancer

Steve Scalise, the House Majority Leader, has announced that he is being treated for cancer. In a statement released on Wednesday, Scalise revealed that he has been diagnosed with stage one prostate cancer. He stated that the cancer was detected early, and his doctors have expressed optimism for a full recovery.

Scalise further explained that he will be undergoing several weeks of radiation treatment at a hospital in Washington, D.C. During this time, he expects to maintain his regular work schedule and remain fully engaged in his duties as Majority Leader. Additionally, he expressed gratitude towards his medical team, friends, and family for their support and stated that he looks forward to successfully completing the treatment.

The news of Scalise's diagnosis has garnered support and well-wishes from colleagues on both sides of the aisle. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed her sympathy and said that she and the House Democratic Caucus send their prayers to Scalise and his family. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also offered his support, emphasizing that he stands with Scalise during this difficult time.

Scalise, who represents Louisiana's 1st congressional district, has been a prominent figure in the Republican Party. He is known for his conservative views and has been a strong advocate for gun rights. In 2017, he survived a gunshot wound during a baseball practice shooting. Following the incident, he received extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation but returned to Congress less than four months later.

Despite this latest health setback, Scalise remains focused on his work as Majority Leader. He stated that he will continue his responsibilities and looks forward to returning to his full schedule after completing radiation treatment. With bipartisan support, Scalise will undoubtedly receive the encouragement and assistance he needs to overcome this new challenge.
