In a minor cabinet reshuffle, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak has appointed Grant Shapps as the new defence secretary. Shapps will replace Ben Wallace, who has held the position since July 2019.

Grant Shapps, a Member of Parliament for Welwyn Hatfield, has previously served as the Secretary of State for Transport since July 2019. Before entering politics, Shapps worked in the IT services industry and also founded his own marketing business.

As the new defence secretary, Shapps will be responsible for overseeing the UK's defense and armed forces. He will work closely with the military and defense officials to ensure the nation's security and preparedness for potential threats.

The reshuffle comes as the government aims to rejuvenate its agenda and tackle important policy issues such as defense and security. Grant Shapps will bring his experience from the transport sector to his new role and will likely face challenges related to defense spending, modernizing the armed forces, and international relations.

It is also worth noting that this reshuffle is considered minor as there have been no changes to key positions like prime minister, chancellor of the exchequer, or foreign secretary. The government is expected to continue with its current policies and priorities in the coming months.
